Monte d'Oro
Montelepre
Monte D'Oro is about 30 km from Palermo, along the road that connects Montelepre to Carini, and is about 600 meters high.
Around the 6th century BC there was an indigenous-Hellenistic population on the mountain.
This settlement represented an important point of trade, returning for its position in the sphere of political and commercial interests of the city of Hyccara, today's Carini.
The studies attest to the presence of an ancient village, destroyed after the battle between Carthaginians and Romans occurred in 250 BC.
The archaeological importance of the site is evidenced by the discovery of a necropolis on the opposite side of the mountain, called the "Handle of Quarara".
The first inspection in the necropolis was carried out by the Superintendence in 1968, while the settlement has never been excavated.
